24.04.2023Niels Mede received the 2023 Dissertation Award of the SACM

On April 20, IKMZ researcher Dr. Niels G. Mede received this year’s Dissertation Award of the Swiss Association of Communication and Media Research (SACM). At the SACM Annual Conference in Luzern, the award jury honored his thesis on “science-related populism”, which he completed in June 2022 and was supervised by IKMZ professors Mike S. Schäfer and Frank Esser.
The dissertation analyzes populist demands toward science from the perspective of (science) communication research. It introduces a conceptual framework for this populism variant, develops a survey scale to measure science-related populist attitudes, presents empirical findings, and discusses implications for science communication scholarship and practice.
