Das IKMZ freut sich, Dr. Jakob Ohme vom Berliner Weizenbaum Institut für die vernetzte Gesellschaft im Herbstsemester 2024 als Gastprofessor für politische Kommunikation begrüssen zu können.
Dr. Ohme ist gegenwärtig Leiter der Forschungsgruppe "Dynamiken digitaler Nachrichtenvermittlung" am Weizenbaum-Institut, Vice Chair der "Political Communication"-Section der European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) und Fellow am "Digital Communication Methods Lab" der University of Amsterdam. Zuvor hat er als Postdoc an der Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) der University of Amsterdam sowie als Assistant Professor am Centre for Journalism der University of Southern Denmark gearbeitet. An der University of Southern Denmark hat er auch 2017 promoviert.
Seine Forschung fokussiert die Auswirkungen digitaler und mobiler Kommunikation auf Nachrichtennutzung und politisches Verhalten in zeitgenössischen Demokratien, wobei er insbesondere generationale Unterschiede in Mediennutzung und politischer Sozialisation untersucht. Hinzu kommt ein ausgeprägtes Interesse an der Entwicklung digitaler Methoden in der politischen Kommunikations- und Journalismusforschung. Dr. Ohme hat auch zu seinen Arbeitsthemen umfassend und in führenden Zeitschriften wie «Political Communication», «Communication Methods and Measures» oder «Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication» und mehrere internationale Forschungspreise erhalten.
IKMZ is happy to welcome Dr. Jakob Ohme from Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society in Berlin as a visiting professor for political communication in the fall semester of 2024.
Dr. Ohme is currently the head of the research group "Dynamics of Digital News Distribution" at the Weizenbaum Institute, Vice Chair of the "Political Communication" section of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), and a fellow at the "Digital Communication Methods Lab" at the University of Amsterdam. Previously, he worked as a postdoc at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) at the University of Amsterdam and as an assistant professor at the Centre for Journalism at the University of Southern Denmark, where he also earned his PhD in 2017.
His research focuses on the effects of digital and mobile communication on news consumption and political behavior in contemporary democracies, with a particular emphasis on generational differences in media use and political socialization. Additionally, he has a strong interest in the development of digital methods in political communication and journalism research. Dr. Ohme has also extensively published on these topics in leading journals such as Political Communication, Communication Methods and Measures, and the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, and he has received several international research awards.
