Minor Methods-Data-Society
The digitalization of society and the growing focus on measuring social phenomena have generated an abundance of data on human behavior and social interaction. In both academic and non-academic contexts, there is an increasing demand for specialists with strong methodological expertise in the social sciences. These experts are essential for critically analyzing the digital transformation and supporting evidence-based decision-making in social development. The Master’s minor Methods – Data – Society (30 ECTS) deepens students’ knowledge and skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. It equips them to process and analyze diverse data sources – including administrative records, social media, surveys, and experimental data – using a range of methodological tools such as statistical analysis. Students also learn how to communicate research findings ef-fectively, tailored to different target audiences. This interdisciplinary program is offered in cooperation with sev-eral UZH departments, including the Department of Political Science (IPZ), the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ), the Department of Religious Studies, the Department of Social Anthropology and Empirical Cultural Studies, and the Department of Sociology.
Please note: The main language of instruction is German.
