The new volume of the magazine "Umwelt" discusses the influence new technologies have on science. Smartphones, apps and social media for example allow for the emergence of citizen science by which citizens take part in the scientific process. Mike Schäfer discusses this phenomon and resumes: It is due to digital media that citizen science can gain further importance.
