Who consumes science and why? A new qualitative study extends results by the Wissenschaftsbarometer. Building up on smartphone based diaries and qualitative interviews, a new study led by Carmen Koch, Mirco Saner, Iris Herrmann, Julia Metag and Mike Schäfer finds that the kind of information different users are interested in and the channel they use vary a lot. It also finds that science has to be explicitly labelled as such for users to recognize content as science related. In a blog entry at the European Journalism Observatory, the authors discuss their main findings.
