Our teaching is strongly linked with our current research on media use and effects by emphasizing a network perspective. This means that we try to understand any form of individual media use and effect as being embedded in a social context. In addition we do not limit our perspective on classic mass media but also include interpersonal communication and any form of new media into our theoretical consideration and empirical work. Typically this results in a social network analytic perspective that complement the canonical methods of the curriculum.
In our seminars and lectures we study media use and media effects from a relational perspective. We do not study single Persons but take social relations and interpersonal communication into account when studying classic mass media and new media. In our recent courses, we studied for example ego-networks of conversations regarding organ donation in the context of an organ donation campaign, communication- and cooperation-networks within international organizations, or the role of co-viewing and follow-up conversations when watching television with friends.
