The first peer-reviewed publication of the global survey project “Trust in Science and Science-Related Populism” (TISP), led by Viktoria Cologna and Niels G. Mede, has been published in Nature Human Behaviour on 20 January 2025. It shows that most people in 68 countries worldwide trust scientists and support an active role of scientists in society and policy-making – despite oft-repeated claims of a crisis of trust in science. Cologna and Mede publicized the study across various channels, including a press release of UZH, a guest article in The Conversation, interviews, and social media.
The study was covered by more than 200 news outlets in several countries worldwide. These include, for example: SRF, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Blick, and 20 minutes (Switzerland), Infobae (Argentina), The Conversation and The National Tribune (Australia), Der Standard and ORF (Austria), Globo and VEJA (Brazil), SoyChile (Chile), Die ZEIT, Deutsche Welle, Forschung & Lehre, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Spektrum, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Welt (Germany), Kathemerini (Greece), The Irish Times (Ireland), Jerusalem Post (Israel), Descoperă (Romania), Aljazeera and Asharq (Saudi Arabia), Yonhap (South Korea), El Tiempo, El Periódico, and La Sexta (Spain), and Times Higher Education.
Moreover, the Science Media Centers of Germany, Australia and New Zealand, and Spain published expert statements on the study by leading researchers in the field.
